80th Anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem | Dathlu 80 mlynedd ers Brwydr Arnhem

It was an honour to go to the Netherlands to mark the 80th Anniversary of Operation Market Garden and the Battle of Arnhem. The sacrifice of thousands of British airborne troops, pilots and others in those landings and subsequent battles is deeply personal for me, as my grandfather Private James Smith was wounded and taken POW after landing in a Horsa glider as part of 1st Airlanding Brigade in September 1944. I met veterans and current troops, Dutch and Polish Ministers and other NATO allies, as well as HM King Willem-Alexander and HRH The Princess Royal.

Roedd yn anrhydedd mynd i’r Iseldiroedd i nodi 80 mlynedd ers Ymgyrch Market Garden a Brwydr Arnhem. Mae aberth miloedd o filwyr awyr Prydain, peilotiaid ac unigolion eraill yn y glaniadau hynny a’r brwydrau dilynol yn bersonol iawn i mi, oherwydd fe gafodd fy nhad-cu, sef y milwr James Smith, ei glwyfo a’i gymryd yn garcharor rhyfel ar ôl glanio mewn gleider Horsa fel rhan o'r Frigâd Glanio o’r Awyr 1af ym mis Medi 1944.  Cwrddais â chyn-filwyr a milwyr presennol, Gweinidogion yr Iseldiroedd a Gwlad Pwyl a chynghreiriaid eraill NATO, yn ogystal âg EF Brenin Willem-Alexander ac Ei Huchelder Brenhinol y Dywysoges Frenhinol.
